The gym is a destination for intensive workout. With the help of various mechanical devices (which are attached with varying amounts of weights), gym-goers do a lot of light as well as heavy workout for at least 30 minutes. As this short description of the gym might have suggested, it is not for the faint-hearted or the uninitiated. However, here are a few tips to those who want to join a gym.
Tip 1- Know your exercise levels. Find out whether you would really be able to indulge in sustained, high-powered exercises. The best way to check out is to do some cardio exercises, some free-hand exercises and some power exercises (push-ups, chin ups, bench presses) at your home. If you feel out of breath very easily, the gym is not meant for you, at least as of now.
Tip 2- Once you have determined what your exercise levels are, you will know what all exercises you can do. With this information in mind, begin your search for a suitable gym. Remember, joining a gym would mean that you’ll have to shell out a membership fee. This fee can vary depending upon the type of machines available in the gym. You won’t need all of them right away so stay away from all high-tech gyms as they might cost you a bomb.
However, do not go for dirt-cheap gyms that have damaged equipment. Instead of giving you desired results these may harm your interest.
Tip 3- Check out whether the gym offers any trial-period. A trial period may allow you to evaluate the gym and the services on offer. Use this period judiciously and get a feel of the place. It should provide you with a relaxed ambience, which is very necessary to do very intensive exercises.
Tip 4- It is important that you try to find a gym that is closer to your house. Gyms that are located far away from your home might induce reluctance in you. This is definitely not good right at the beginning of your gymming experience. It may terminate something that hasn’t even started yet.
Tip 5- Do not get intimidated with those present in the gym. They might be in perfect shape and you not. But hey, they were like you a couple of months back. And you too are here to achieve exactly what they have (although this may take some time). Keep your mind filled with these and similar positive thoughts. They will keep your motivation level high.
Gymming is a highly intensive, energy sapping exercise. It can either give a feeling of pain (mental, apart from physical) or a sense of enjoyment to the gym goer. But what can not be denied is that the end result of all this pain and suffering is a healthy, well-toned body.
