Fighting Fit
If it's fitness you want, there can be no better role model than someone with military training. Most self respecting military outfits in the world ensure that their soldiers are always at their fittest best. And, the techniques they use to do so can be used by civilians as well to insure their own health. Here's how.

Before you even think of joining a military fitness program, you must first decide whether you're truly up for it. This particular fitness regimen is not for the faint hearted and you are expected to take in your stride, every single challenge that it throws at you. Other than being challenging, the workouts incorporated in such a program are also more intense. Thus, you should be confident of your ability to take on these tests.

Another very important thing to remember is that a military fitness plan differs vastly from the general weight loss and body toning programs. While it does not emulate the army's way of doing things to the core, it is very vigorous. Unlike the usual civilian fitness program, it does not simply focus on achieving looks. Instead, it concentrates on building up strength and stamina and a great body is only treated as a side effect of learning how to max out your physical capabilities. After all, a real soldier needs to be well trained and fit enough to dodge a bullet on the battlefield and not simply have a good looking physique.

The basic factors that a military fitness program would focus on include conserving energy, reducing injury and using your physical strength and abilities in the appropriate way. Most people who engage in some form of fitness activity and end up sustaining injuries usually do so owing to poor technique and bad habits. The program teaches you how to correct these errors. The general exercises incorporated in such programs include mostly gym equipment free activities such as calisthenics, jumping, obstacle courses, running and swimming along with other physical workouts.

Joining such a fitness program can be fun and the experience could easily impart a competitive and courageous spirit in you. Most such classes are usually scheduled for the wee hours of the morning as done in the most authentic military outfits. And, while the thought of waking up at the crack of dawn may fill you with dread, do enroll in the earliest class possible to get a real idea of what it means to be fit in the army.

Once you've mastered the difficult workout challenges that a military fitness program throws at you, you can look forward to a lifetime of activity and health. And, while the workouts may seem a little extreme to you in the initial days of the program; you are sure to notice the incredible boost it gives to your fitness, once it's over.
